Sivas KANGAL Köpeği Resimleri
Kangal köpeği'nin kökeni hakkında “rivayet” sayılabilecek bazı görüşler vardır. Ancak, 11 Temmuz 2003'te düzenlenen I. Uluslararası Kangal Köpeği Sempozyumu'nun sonuç bildirisinde, “büyük Türk göçleri sırasında Türkistan'dan Anadolu'ya getirilen bir köpek ırkı olduğu” kabul edilmiştir.
Kangal ilçesine de adını verdiği düşünülen, Orta Asya'dan göç eden “Kanglı (Kangar)” Türk boyunun, göç ederken bu köpek ırkını da getirdiği düşünülmektedir. Orhan Yılmaz, "Kangal Köpeği / Tarihi-Tanıtımı-Yetiştirilmesi-Islahı" adlı kitabında “Kanglı” Türk boyunun Orta Asya'dan göç ederken yanlarında üç şeyi getirdiklerinden bahseder; bunların at, it ve koyun olduğunu söyler. Kangalların, bu boyun göç sırasında getirdiği bir ırk olduğunu kaydeder.
İlk rivayete göre, Hint Mihracesi tarafından Osmanlı padişahına bir köpek hediye edilir. Bu padişah muhtemelen Yavuz Sultan Selim'dir. Hediye edilen köpek Kangal'ın Deliktaş köyü yakınlarında kaybolur. Köpek, tüm aramalara rağmen bulunamaz. Kangal köpeğinin, bu kaybolan köpekten türediği şeklindeki rivayete göre, Kangal köpeği'nin kökeni Hindistan'dır.
